I live in a very warm climate and a ceiling fan is a must. It’s not like the old days though when all you could find were big clunky ugly fans. They come in all sorts of designs to fit any room. And best of all, they’re a lot more quiet than they used to be.

Decorators say that throw pillows are the easiest way to change up a room on a budget. I say that lampshades are just as simple. They come in so many designs and materials. You can totally transform a room just by updating lampshades and going with a totally different style.

Obviously lighting is decorative. It accents walls, art, work areas. You will always need it at night to see and, depending on where you live, you may need it for many parts of the day as well. So how do we go about lighting the home? Well, not rocket science. There are table lamps, floor lamps, desk lamps, track lighting, ceiling cans, under cabinet lights, wall sconces, and chandeliers. And don’t forget big, well placed windows for the best light of all. Lighting a room should be given some careful thought. Bulbs and fixtures with a “true to sunlight” spectrum will give you the most pleasant light. Provide ambient light from overhead, task light to specific areas and accent lights for mood. And – the fixtures themselves can be like fine art.
